If you desire to have your body look the way it did before you had any children, a “mommy makeover” procedure may be right for you. This procedure involves undergoing several surgeries at the same time, with the goal of restoring you to your pre-baby body.
The first step is to talk to your surgeon about your desire to undergo this procedure. Your surgeon will ask you questions regarding your medical history, as well as what you expect from the procedure and whether or not that is achievable. You will undergo a physical and photographs will be taken of your breasts and abdomen for your file. You are encouraged to ask any questions you may have as the surgeon thoroughly discusses the surgery.
Although the mommy makeover can be a combination of any number of surgeries, usually it involves a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation and breast lift. You pick whichever procedures you’d like. The tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat in the abdomen and liposuction removes excess fat in any other places necessary. The breast augmentation and breast lift reshape and reposition the breasts. The benefit of performing all these surgeries at one time is minimizing the recovery time while maximizing the results.
You will be given intravenous sedation for your comfort prior to your surgery. The entire procedure may take anywhere from three to eight hours, depending on how many surgeries you have done. Afterward, you will rest in a recovery room until the anesthesia wears off. Depending on the severity of the procedures, it may be in your best interest to spend the night at the location where the procedure took place.
Be sure to allow your body time to recover; do not push yourself too hard too fast. There may be some bruising and swelling in the first couple weeks, during which time you should not participate in any physical activity. After that, you may resume small and non-strenuous physical activity. Give yourself at least four weeks before you attempt at heavy pushing or lifting. Consult with your surgeon if you suspect anything unusual during the healing process.
