Neck LiftA platysmaplasty, more commonly known as a neck lift, is a procedure to enhance the shape and appearance of your neck. This can involve removing or altering excess skin or muscle, liposuction to remove fat, and botox to enhance fullness.

Talk to you surgeon about the results you are expecting from your neck lift. While a neck lift will improve the appearance of your neck, it will not stop the normal aging process from occurring. Your surgeon will recommend the type of surgery that is best for you based on your expectations, current neck condition, and overall health.

There are three common problems that people looking into undergoing a neck lift are trying to address: excess fat, excess skin, or a combination of the two. Excess skin can be treated by making small incisions under the chin and behind the ears to remove the excess tissue. Excess fat can be treated by performing liposuction on the areas that need fat removed. Alternatively, a combination of techniques can be used to achieve a complete rejuvenation of the neck area.

On the day of your surgery, you will be given either local anesthesia for the affected area or anesthesia so you will sleep through the procedure. Depending on the procedure you choose, your surgery will last anywhere from one to three hours. Afterward, you will be given a compression bandage to wear for at least one week following the procedure.

In the days and weeks following your surgery, you may experience swelling, bruising, or numbness. This is normal and should fade with time. Give yourself plenty of time to heal fully before resuming normal activity. Plan to wait at least three weeks before intense physical activity or heavy exercising. Call your doctor regularly to ensure you are healing normally.
